What Really Happened
September 21, 2018: Both Kelley and Kenny were convinced by friends to go to the St. Lucia concert at Pier 17 in New York City. Kelley late as always, strategically opted to take a shortcut by cutting a cute guy in the very long drink line. That guy just happened to be Kenny, who was in line for his whiskey. After some witty banter, they parted ways without each others phone numbers.
Fast forward to three months later on New Years Eve, Kelley and Kenny ran into each other again. This time around, Kenny actually got Kelley’s number. He texted her on New Years Day with a Ron Swanson GIF. It must have worked, because they’ve been together ever since.
The Proposal
Throughout their relationship, one of Kenny’s favorite things to tell Kelley is that he “always has something up his sleeve.”
July 3rd, 2021 in Newport Rhode Island: Fourth of July weekend, Kelley and Kenny invited their friends Laura, Glenn, Kristina and Mike to her parents home for Fourth of July weekend. Little did Kelley know, that all the plans she was making were going to be derailed by the best surprise of her life. Kelley thought she was doing the Cliff Walk with friends followed by a casual brunch at The Chandler. The Chandler was a new destination for the couple, despite the many times they visited Rhode Island. Kenny told Kelley that he was able to secure a reservation last minute due to the bad weather and they would do the cliff walk after brunch. It was a very rainy day, but everyone insisted it would still be fun. The men went first to hold the reservation and the ladies followed shortly behind. Leading up, the men coached Kenny, fed him whiskey for liquid courage and the women were able to keep Kelley completely in the dark. Walking up to the Chandler steps overlooking the Cliff Walk, Kenny stood there alone waiting for Kelley and got one one knee. After the biggest surprise of her life, she was joined by friends, her family and Kenny’s parents that came up from Florida for the special occasion. The rest of the weekend was filled with celebrations at their favorite Rhode Island spots like Clarke Cooke House, Matuneck Oyster Bar and her parents home in Jamestown.
